One high-profile couple in Selangor’s Shah Alam has been nabbed by Malaysian authorities for operating an unlicensed domestic helper syndicate from their residence.
The raid led to the detention of 13 Indonesian women aged between 22 and 47, all of whom had entered Malaysia using social visit passes. These women were deployed as domestic workers through the underground recruitment agency.
Each worker was charged between RM3.5K–RM4.5K, often taken from their monthly salaries.
Immigration officials believe the couple had ties with an Indonesian agent, facilitating the trafficking of these workers under false pretenses. The recruitment agency had been operating without a valid licence and violated Malaysian employment regulations.
They will be charged under **Section 55E of the Immigration Act 1959/63**, which carries hefty fines for employing undocumented migrants.
The case has also been forwarded to the **Labour Department** for further action on operating an unlicensed employment service. Authorities warn the public to only use approved **maid recruitment agency agencies** and **recruitment agencies** when hiring domestic workers.
The arrest is part of a wider crackdown to combat illegal maid agency operations in Malaysia.
